RESUMING THE CELEBRATION OF PUBLIC MASSES AT ST. BERNADETTE
The celebration of public Masses will resume on Monday, May 25th at 9:00 am. For the time being, the Mass schedule will be as follows:
Monday – 9:00 am
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday – 8:15 am
Thursday – 7:00 pm
Saturday — 5:00 pm
Sunday – 8:00 am & 11:00 am
Please note the change in times on Thursday and Sunday morning. The Thursday evening Mass will allow those who work during the day another opportunity to attend Mass. And moving the Sunday morning Mass from 9:00 to 8:00 am will give us enough time to clean and disinfect between Masses.
Please remember that the faithful have been dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, and that dispensation will remain in place for the foreseeable future. No one will incur sin for not attending Mass during this time.
Those who wish to participate in Mass and receive Holy Communion can do so by attending Mass any day of the week. If you are able to come to a Mass during the week, we recommend doing so, so as to free up more space at the weekend Masses. If everyone tries to come on Sunday (or Saturday evening), we won’t have enough seating.
We ask those who are sick and/or vulnerable to stay home during this time, remembering they are dispensed from the Sunday obligation.
We will be observing appropriate social distancing and other precautions as required or suggested by public health authorities and the Archdiocese. These precautions include the following:
- Our seating capacity is greatly reduced during this time, as we have had to block off many of our pews. For the Saturday evening and 2 Sunday morning Masses, we will be requiring people to sign up on-line for these. Details on how to do this will be published soon on our website, Facebook page, and through e-mails (for those households for whom we have a current e-mail).
- We ask that you arrive to Mass early, so as to leave time for being seated. This will be especially true at the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses, as we will be asking ushers to help people find seats.
- The sign of peace will be omitted and the faithful are not to hold hands during the Our Father.
- Communion will not be offered from the chalice. We strongly encourage everyone to receive Communion in the hand during this time.
- We are asking those coming to Mass to wear face masks, when possible.
