Start Somewhere Challenge

Get back into spiritual shape.

“Something’s not right.”

When you first get out of shape, you may hardly notice — until you do. At that point, getting back into shape can feel impossible. You might be overwhelmed and uncertain about where to even begin. But, analysis paralysis is unhelpful. And avoidance is not a viable option. If you want to change, you just have to start somewhere.

Lightning didn’t strike

The stats aren’t great. The Church is bleeding Catholics. For some, it wasn’t so much a hard and fast decision as it was slowly drifting away — missing Mass here, not praying there. For others, it was COVID.

Spiritual practices evaporated, and lightning didn’t strike.

Everything seemed fine, until wasn’t. We find ourselves alone and stuck. God seems distant. We don’t know where to turn. We’re “out of shape.”

Getting out of spiritual shape is not hard. Getting back into shape is. But, it’s not impossible. First, you have to want to get into shape. Then, you have to start somewhere.

We know this struggle

We’ve all been there: stuck. This is why we’re challenging every parishioner from the least involved to the most, to start somewhere. Start Somewhere is about coming back to Jesus in the Eucharist.

God has more in store for all of us — he loves you so much, he meets us where we are. But, he loves us too much to leave us there.

Start somewhere challenge

The Start Somewhere Challenge at Stella Maris invites all Catholics to attend at least one Eucharistic event (Mass, quiet prayer in a church, a talk, a concert) between February and July 2024. There’s plenty to choose from because we’re launching our own Eucharistic Revival.

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
— Mt. 11:28

Ready to get started?

  • We’ve got a bit of everything, from a concert to talks, and from beautiful liturgies to quiet churches open during the weekdays. Learn more on our Eucharistic Revival page.

  • At least one Mass, stopping by a quiet church during Eucharistic adoration, attending a talk about the life of a saint, joining in a night of worship and praise. There’s no wrong choice.

  • We can have the best intentions, but if we don’t follow through, nothing changes. Start somewhere. Let’s go!
